Premier League suspended amid coronavirus outbreak with Liverpool’s title now on hold

The 2019/20 Premier League has been officially suspended until April 3 due to coronavirus fears.

Premier League chiefs have faced criticism in taking their time to reach a decision on suspending the season or playing matches behind closed doors.

La Liga, Serie A and MLS are just some of the world’s top leagues who have taken the decision to suspend current seasons.

The English Football League made an announcement that their leagues would be suspended on Tuesday and the Premier League has now followed suit.

A statement from the Premier League read: “Following a meeting of Shareholders today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time.

On Thursday evening Arsenal released a statement confirming manager Mikel Arteta had tested positive for the virus.
