Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has lauded Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez as “one of the best strikers in the world”.
The 22-year-old has impressed under the tutelage of Antonio Conte this season, netting 16 goals and contributing four assists in 31 games in all competitions.
As a result, Martinez has attracted interest from the some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Barcelona and Chelsea.
The Blues are said to be willing to ‘break the market’ in order to secure the Argentinian’s signature in the summer and his compatriot Pochettino believes he would be an excellent signing for Frank Lampard’s side.
Lautaro Martinez has been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona
Speaking to Radio La Plata, Pochettino said: “Lautaro Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world. It’s not just for what he does now, but for what his potential means going forward.
“If you start looking at hitmen for the big clubs, clearly his name has to be in there.”
However, the fact that Barcelona are also interested in the forward means that Chelsea could struggle to get the deal over the line, according to ex-Liverpool star Steve Nicol.
Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for Martinez
“[He] would be a great signing for Chelsea,” Nicol told ESPN FC . “I think the problem for Chelsea is there may be if this guy becomes available, because I’m not quite sure if he’s available.
“Obviously money talks but if this guy is available and this guy keeps producing what he’s been producing, then Chelsea might be at the back of the queue.
