As the Frank Lampard project continues in Southwest London, there is a growing need to invest in areas throughout the squad. Lampard is keen to get younger at several positions, while Chelsea have major weaknesses at centre-forward and goalkeeper, as well as uncertainty at centre-back, left-back and other areas in the squad.
With the summer transfer window looming and Chelsea now able to sign players after their transfer embargo came to an end, the Blues will be looking to add to the already acquired Hakim Ziyech, who will join up with the club following the £33.4 million agreement with Ajax.

Chelsea going young
As many of Europe’s elite clubs are beginning to discover, signing extremely naturally gifted young players before they reach peak years and peak price can be an extremely financially prudent way of building a squad.
This allows clubs to acquire high-potential recruits on cheaper fees full in the knowledge that if they do not quite make the grade at the club, easy profit can be made when it comes to selling them on. Chelsea have taken advantage of this several times before. And now they are being linked with another young prodigy, Nico Melamed.
Melamed has spent the majority of the season playing for Espanyol B. An attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, Melamed has scored seven goals in 27 games for Espanyol B this season. He featured for Spain under-19s in January and made his Espanyol debut in the Europa League earlier this season, his only senior appearance to date.
