Premier League season delay decision to be made in urgent meeting between 20 clubs

Football bosses will agree to push back the restart date for the season when they hold urgent talks today.

The Premier League and all 20 top flight clubs will hold a meeting via video link to decide there is no chance of top level games being allowed to resume on April 30.

Premier League bosses are expected to extend the delay by a month – or even shut down the rest of the campaign indefinitely due to the worsening coronavirus crisis.

Uefa have written a joint letter with the European Clubs’ Association and the European Leagues urging domestic bodies not to abandon their competitions.

Leagues across Europe have been told that ending competitions now could result in them forfeiting Champions League and Europa League places.

Issues being discussed at the Premier League meeting include the proposal to get players to accept a wage cut or deferral across the board.
