The Chelsea youngster who could save Frank Lampard £150million in the summer transfer window

Jadon Sancho’s blistering performances for Borussia Dortmund has led to intense speculation linking him with a £100m move to the Premier League this summer.

Among the clubs in the frame for the 20-year-old are Chelsea, who under Frank Lampard, have assembled a youthful squad with English talent at its core.

Chelsea have lacked a match-winning creator from the flanks since Eden Hazard’s departure to Real Madrid last summer and with long-serving duo Willian and Pedro set to call time on their careers at Stamford Bridge, there appears to be a pressing need to sign a new winger.

Not everyone is convinced that Sancho is what Chelsea need, though. Former defender Frank Sinclair has questioned the wisdom in pursuing a club-record deal for the England international when Callum Hudson-Odoi is already at the club.

“Jadon Sancho is a fantastic player and a great talent but he plays in similar positions to the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian, so there will be tough competition for places if he does join in the summer,” Sinclair told GentingBet.

“Is Sancho any better than Hudson-Odoi on that left-hand side? When you look at the potential of both players, would you spend close to £150 million, which I’d expect he would cost, to bring Jadon Sancho to this country or would you just stick to Callum Hudson-Odoi?”

So, does Sinclair have a point over Sancho and Hudson-Odoi?

Both players were part of England U17s victorious World Cup win 2017 but Sancho – eight months Hudson-Odoi’s senior – featured far more prominently than his fellow winger, who was the youngest member of Steve Cooper’s squad.
