Chelsea transfer target Achraf Hakimi gives fresh hope over move after agent’s comments

Chelsea have been given fresh hope in their pursuit of Achraf Hakimi after the latest comments made his agent.

The Morocco international has spent the last two seasons on loan from Real Madrid at Borussia Dortmund.

The full-back has made 64 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit in that time.

As well as becoming a key part of the starting XI, his versatility has not gone unnoticed.

Hakimi’s preferred position is at right-back, but he can be deployed at left-back too, comfortable in a back-four or as a wing-back.

The 21-year-old is set to return to the Bernabeu this summer but reports that a new contract was agreed have been rubbished by his agent.

Alejandro Camano, who represents Hakimi, moved to deny claims in Spain that he had extended his Real deal.

Camano said: “There is no basis at all. His contract at Real Madrid is still the same one we negotiated in 2017 and it runs until 2022.”

“We have to wait. After this misery (the coronavirus outbreak) we will sit together with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.”

A left-back is a top priority but the former Derby coach is keen on bringing in players who can be deployed in multiple positions.

That has already been seen with Hakimi’s compatriot Hakim Ziyech, who was signed from Ajax in February.

Reece James is the long-term solution at right-back but the likes of Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso could leave in the transfer market.

With Cesar Azpilicueta also approaching 31, a look to the future is needed at Stamford Bridge.
