Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has urged Billy Gilmour to follow in the footsteps of Manchester United legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, insisting the young midfielder has what it takes to enjoy “a fantastic career”.
Gilmour, 18, has proved a revelation since making his Blues debut back in August, putting in man-of-the-match displays against Liverpool and Everton last month.
The Scottish youngster even impressed Keane, notorious for his ruthless approach to punditry, who branded his compatriot “world class” after his terrific performance against Liverpool.
Lampard, too, is clearly a massive fan of Gilmour, tipping his midfield gem to emulate the likes of Keane and Scholes.

“I had to put my cup of tea down to hear Roy say something nice! I’m only joking,” he said when speaking about Keane’s glowing praise of Gilmour on Sky Sports.
“Roy Keane was a fantastic midfield player and he probably won’t give credit unless it’s due – and it certainly was due. And he’s right, I heard the statements he made about Billy and I think he’s spot on.
“Billy should be happy with that and if he can go and follow the ideas that someone like Roy Keane says when it comes to midfield play he won’t go far wrong.”
And Lampard has urged his midfield gem to follow in the footsteps of both Keane and Scholes

He then added: “He came with the right attributes obviously and the right attitude and they would have worked on that. A lot of that has to come from within.
“And as I say, Billy’s consistency, he does it daily, there aren’t many days when you don’t see him turn up and try and do those right things.
