Chelsea already have Jorginho’s ready-made replacement who Frank Lampard can trust

There have been question marks over whether or not Jorginho will continue to be a Chelsea player come the summer.

Since joining in the summer of 2018, the Italy international has made a pretty decent impression at the club.

Of course, he was a big part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans when the head coach first joined the Blues, while he was named vice-captain of Frank Lampard’s team.

However, the 28-year-old has, at times, looked suspect in the defensive phase of the game and whether or not he gives enough in an attacking aspect.

Chelsea have a strong midfield this season, and so Lampard will not be wanting to go into the transfer market when there are other positions with a more pressing need.

But if Lampard does want to move on from Jorginho next season and look to youth once again, then he already has a ready-made replacement on the books.

Billy Gilmour showed in his performances against Everton and Liverpool before the season was suspended that he has the ability to be the pivot for the Blues.

And Lampard has certainly been won over by Gilmour’s ability and work ethic on the training pitch.

“We’ve had a few of the young players come through this year, and that has given me great pleasure, as they are great to work with. They want to come in, they want to learn, and they’re like sponges,” Lampard told Sky Sports.

“Billy has given me as much pleasure as anyone. When you look at Billy, he can be quite slight in terms of his size, he’s quite quiet, young and polite, but then you train day-to-day with him through the season.
