Chelsea and Arsenal suffer blow in hunt for talented Brazilian defender

Both Chelsea and their London rivals Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of highly-rated Lille centre-half Gabriel Magalhaes.

Everton have become the frontrunners to sign the 22-year-old Brazilian, who has also reportedly been tracked by the Blues and Gunners.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees will reportedly see their €30m offer accepted for Magalhaes, who has impressed at the Ligue 1 club this season.

It’s been suggested that Frank Lampard is keen to add another option in the centre of defence when the transfer window reopens. The club has also been scouting Stoke defender Nathan Collins, although any potential bid for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is far from certain.

All the latest inside news on Lautaro Martinez and Alex Telles

football.london ’s Chelsea correspondent Oliver Harbord has been answering fans’ questions, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s potential return, Willian’s contract situation, and the potential signings of Alex Telles and Lautaro Martinez.

“Martinez would be a massive deal, however, with the striker having impressed with Inter Milan and they wouldn’t let him go for cheap,” writes Harbord.

“[Telles is] “A Chelsea target.” he adds. “One of the areas that the Blues will be looking to buy in is the left-back position and Telles is certainly on the radar.

“However, there is no deal yet, but remains a cheaper option than someone like Ben Chilwell.”
