Mateo Kovacic, Tammy Abraham, Willian and the contenders for Chelsea player of the season

No doubt Chelsea fans will be missing football due as the Premier League continues to decide what is the best course of action for when it might restart.

When it does finally get back under way, the Blues will be in fourth place and also currently in the FA Cup quarter-final and the Champions League last 16.

But who has been the player of the campaign so far for the Blues?

Mateo Kovacic

In a summer where Chelsea were hampered with a transfer ban, the Blues were only able to sign Gonzalo Higuain and Mateo Kovacic.

The Blues declined to sign the Argentine, but they were keen to make the loan deal for Kovacic permanent from Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old wasn’t that impressive during his loan the season before, however it was needed to bring in another midfielder and there wasn’t going to be another option.

However, this season he has looked like a completely different player and been an important member of the squad, driving from midfield and being a crucial part of Lampard’s plans.

One area which he still needs to improve is the productivity in the final third, with just one Premier League goal and another in the Champions League to his name.

However, Kovacic has certainly improved Chelsea’s side this season.

Tammy Abraham

There was going to be a lot of pressure on Tammy Abraham to lead the line and really show that he can be Chelsea’s number nine for the future.

The 22-year-old had loan spells at Bristol City, Swansea City and was excellent at Aston Villa, meaning he got his chance with the Blues finally.

Given the number nine shirt, the England international had to fight off Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud to get a starting spot.
