Chelsea and Frank Lampard’s summer transfer priorities to hunt down Liverpool and Man City

With football on a hiatus right now, there is no clear indication of when the Premier League will get back under way.

Chelsea will be hoping that when the 2020/21 campaign gets under way later in the year, then they might be able to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the table.

Part of that will be who the Blues can get in the transfer window, who might leave and the quality of player joining the club at Stamford Bridge.

So Lampard will certainly be trying to boost the quality in certain areas, but where would he look to first? takes a look at the positions which need the most attention in the summer.

7. Right-back

With club captain Cesar Azpilicueta and youngster Reece James in the squad, the right-back position seems pretty filled.

They also have cover in there from other players, with Fikayo Tomori able to move into the role should Lampard require.

There seems to be more pressing matters than the full-back position for the summer.

6. Central midfielder

It’s a position at Chelsea right now where the Blues have a real depth of talent, with Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante as the front runners.

Meanwhile, the Blues also have Ross Barkley, Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour in the squad, with the likes of Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater on loan if needed as well.

Again, the Blues might be looking for long-term talent to bring in to the squad, but if no one leaves then the Blues are pretty set.
