Chelsea Q&A live: transfer news, Olivier Giroud’s contract, Willian’s future, Liverpool claim

Hello and welcome to our live ask me anything session with senior reporter Alan Smith.

There may be no return in sight for football but the news cycle continues to turn.

The week began with an expectation that Chelsea’s players would take a pay cut and ended with the club announcing that they would not be implementing cuts at this stage.

They are also committed to paying off-field staff 100% of their wages while the game remains on hiatus, with casual matchday staff at Stamford Bridge also assured of their pay for the rest of the season.

That’s on top of all the fine work the club are doing to help frontline staff and local charities. The players have also donated money to the Chelsea Foundation, NHS charities and other personal initiatives.

Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud’s contract has been extended by 12 months but, as reported on Friday, that merely protects the club from losing the striker on a free in the next transfer window and there is no guarantee that he will remain.

Willian had been linked with Liverpool by a Spanish newspaper but there was little truth in that story, while Manchester United’s warning over the transfer market has brought up some new questions about a potential move for Jadon Sancho.

Want Alan to expand on any of those stories? Or do you want to know something else?

Alan should be here from about 2.30pm so get your questions in now.
