Here are the Chelsea morning headlines on Friday, June 5.
Rudiger’s role in Chelsea’s Werner capture
Chelsea are expected to complete a €55m move for RB Leipzig star Timo Werner this summer, and Blues defender Antonio Rudiger is said to have played his part in getting the deal done.
Rudiger and the forward both started their careers at VfB Stuttgart and developed a friendship which remains to this day.
Last month Sport Bild’s Christian Falk reported the centre-back had been messaging Werner – both of whom are in the German national team set-up – in order to convince the 24-year-old to move to Stamford Bridge.

And it appears to have paid off with Werner expected to depart Leipzig once the 2019/20 campaign has concluded and, despite strong interest from Liverpool, join Chelsea.
Blues to give Werner No.11 shirt?
Werner could be handed his preferred shirt number if he completes his move to Chelsea this summer.
The forward, who has struck 31 goals in all competitions this season, is understood to have agreed a five-year contract with the Blues who are prepared to pay the German international’s €55m buyout clause.
Chelsea are said to have convinced the 24-year-old to join Frank Lampard’s squad – which will also be improved by the arrival of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax – and there will be several squad numbers for Werner to choose from when he joins, including the No.11 shirt which has been his preferred choice at Leipzig.

The number is currently occupied by Pedro but the Spanish star is expected to leave the Blues when his contract expires in the summer.
