Chelsea behind the scenes: Werner and Havertz deals, latest injury news, Sancho update

The 2019/20 Premier League season is just days away from resuming, but Chelsea already have an eye on next term.

Frank Lampard’s side, who face Aston Villa this weekend, will be bolstered by the arrival of Hakim Ziyech in the summer transfer window and there are at least two more big deals in the pipeline.

football.london understands the Blues activated Timo Werner’s €55million release clause at RB Leipzig before it expired on June 15, with personal terms expected to be agreed over a five-year contract.

And the Germany international could be joined at Stamford Bridge by compatriot Kai Havertz.

All the speculation last week centered around the Blues opening talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal worth between £70m-£75m for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder.

In addition, Lampard is known to be keen on signing a new left-back this summer and there has been links to the likes of Ben Chilwell, Nicolas Tagliafico and Alex Telles.
