Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Angel Gomes has been told not to put pen to paper on a new contract by ‘people around him advising him to do different things.’
The highly-rated 19-year-old seems set to leave the United academy after refusing to sign a new deal with the club and his deal expires at midnight on Tuesday.
Gomes snubbed United’s opening offer of a new deal earlier this season and the forward has been unconvinced about his playing prospects at the club.
Although United are understood to have submitted improved terms in a last-gasp bid to convince him to stay, his representatives were ‘underwhelmed’ by the offer.

Solskjaer praised Gomes, who recently went viral in a video of him visiting a Nigerian pastor to heal his injuries, but laid the blame for his decision to quit United squarely at the feet of his representatives.
“You can ask Angel why he’s not signed,” Solskjaer said. “He’s not signed yet, I don’t know what the talks are behind the scenes.
“Angel’s a top kid. Of course there are people around him that advise him to do different things.
“If he doesn’t sign, all the best to Angel and I’m going to follow his career. If he signs for us, let’s kick on.”
