Chelsea evening headlines as Frank Lampard admits concerns and Kai Havertz transfer condition

Here are the Chelsea evening headlines for Sunday July 12.

Lampard not impressed with Sheffield United performance

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has issued a warning after his side were beaten 3-0 at Sheffield United on Saturday.

A brace from David McGoldrick and an Oli McBurnie goal condemned the Blues to defeat, as they were outclassed by the Blades.

And Lampard was not a happy man after the game, stating that there is a lot he will have learned from the game.

He said : “They were better than us physically, better than us mentally, better with the ball.

“They were also stronger than us.

“With no crowd you can hear every voice. All I could hear were Sheffield United voices.

“We have to put this to bed and keep fighting to finish in the top four. We are still in that race because what we have done this season.

Havertz transfer: Chelsea need Champions League qualification

Chelsea transfer target Kai Havertz wants to play in the Champions League – but if the Blues do not qualify for the competition, it would be hard to persuade the Bayer Leverkusen attacker to move to Stamford Bridge.

Football.London reporter Alan Smith suggests that if Chelsea were to be in next season’s Europa League there would likely be consequences for other transfer targets too, with many players reluctant to make a step down if already at Champions League sides.

He writes : “While the Blues will likely get back to winning ways at home to already-relegated Norwich City on Tuesday evening, they must then travel to champions Liverpool and host Wolves on the final day, a side with European ambitions of their own.
