Chelsea may be faced with Eden Hazard problem when Kai Havertz joins club

Chelsea appear on the cusp of signing Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz in a deal worth around £73m.

The German international has attracted major interest following his Bundesliga exploits this term.

But Chelsea don’t seem to have too much competition for Havertz’s services, with the Athletic reporting that the Blues are at the front of the queue and are closing in on securing a transfer unchallenged.

The 21-year-old is said to be happy to be joining the Premier League club after speaking with Frank Lampard.

And the Blues are expected to challenge next season after already adding the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner this summer.

However, will Havertz’s time at Chelsea go the same way as Eden Hazard?

The Belgian was adored by fans in west London following his exploits at Stamford Bridge over seven years.

Two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, League Cup and two Europa League successes were achieved with the 29-year-old in the side.

But Hazard’s exit was a long, drawn out affair after he repeatedly flirted with a move to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos finally nabbed their man last summer, as Hazard signed off his Chelsea tenure following the Europa League final.

And Havertz may also have the urge to join the Spanish giants should his time in England prove fruitful.

The Athletic report the Bayer star initially wanted a move to Real Madrid this year.

Zinedine Zidane’s side were heavily linked with a move earlier in the season but have pulled the plug on any potential deal, essentially leaving Chelsea in the clear.

Madrid have enjoyed an incredible post-lockdown run of form that saw them lift the La Liga title last week.

And president Florentino Perez admits there will be little transfer activity in the short-term.
