For all of the success Chelsea have enjoyed this season, their defensive frailties have left a lot to be desired.
Once the curtain came down on an action-packed, unforgettable 2019/20 Premier League campaign last Sunday, one statistic made particularly grim reading if you were a Chelsea fan.
Despite having secured a top-four finish with their 2-0 final day victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge, the Blues, who will be looking to lay their hands on the FA Cup when they face Arsenal in Saturday’s final at Wembley, boasted the worst defensive record of any side that finished inside the top 10.

In total, Frank Lampard’s side conceded 54 goals in 38 league games, four more than any other club that secured a top-four finish.
Whilst you can fairly argue that it did not do any damage to the Blues’ top-four ambitions, you can argue that record is not good enough to mount a genuine title charge next season.
Having splashed out more than £80million already this summer on the services of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Germany international Timo Werner, it is safe to say that Chelsea are in the mood to try and bridge the gap on the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the table.
But if Chelsea are to do that then they are desperately in need of bolstering their defensive-line, with the club being closely linked with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester City star Ben Chilwell in recent weeks and months.
Whilst adding Chilwell to the squad would add competition for the left-back spot, signing Koulibaly would be a massive upgrade, with respect, to what Lampard currently has at his disposal.
As things stand, Napoli insist they have yet to receive any formal offers for Koulibaly this summer, but that could all change, especially now that Manchester City may have…
