With Bayer Leverkusen out of the Europa League, at last Chelsea have a clear run at Kai Havertz.
Signing him will not be easy by any means, but at least now the practical obstacles are out of the way. Whether the deal is done or not will depend on multiple things, but we should reach a conclusion soon either way.
That important for Chelsea, above all because they still have serious work to do in the market. Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech may have been secured early, but there are still desperate needs at left back, central defence and in goal.
The sooner the Havertz deal can be concluded either way the better. It will likely be the biggest and most valuable buy we make all summer, but those other moves could prove complex too, and with just a few weeks left before next season starts, time is of the essence.
We could be in line for a really special season, and getting the squad in order as quickly as possible is the first step on that road.
