Man Utd now in ‘pole position’ ahead of Chelsea to complete Benoit Badiashile transfer

Manchester United are rumoured to be leading the race to sign Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile this summer.

Several other teams, including Chelsea, have previously been linked with a move for the 19-year-old centre-back, but the Red Devils are now said to be in pole position.

Badiashile is very highly rated in France and is already being dubbed “the next Raphael Varane”, such are the high quality of his performances.

And, according to Le10sport , Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to secure a deal for the teenager, who is valued at around £27million.

Monaco coach Niko Kovac is keen to keep hold of the Frenchman but may struggle with so many teams looking at him.

Solskjaer is keen to add more pace to his back-line at United alongside Harry Maguire and Badiashile would certainly fit the bill.

The 6ft 4in defender knows how to get around the pitch and would compliment the England international at Old Trafford.

Badiashile is also left-footed which would add further balance to the defensive partnership at the club.

Arsenal and Napoli are also being linked with the Brazilian, while Everton were reported to have had an £18m bid rejected last week.

United improved massively as this season progressed after eventually finding the correct formula under Solskjaer.

An impressive unbeaten run toward the end of the Premier League season sealed a top four spot and they are still in with a chance of silverware.

The Red Devils take on Sevilla in the Europa League semi-final tonight with a place in next week’s final on the line.

Winning the competition would be a welcome tonic for Solskjaer, who is still awaiting his first trophy since taking over from Jose Mourinho.
