Chelsea ‘readying’ move for Lille goalkeeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea are “readying” a move for Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan as an alternative to current shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues’ No.1 has come under fire throughout the season for errors in big games, leading to speculation of an exit.

It has seen Frank Lampard’s side emerge as an interested party in shot-stoppers such as Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

But French outlet le10 have reported that Lille’s goalkeeper has become the latest man to be put in Chelsea’s sights.

Maignan has been the main man between the posts for Lille, only missing three games due to being on the bench.

And the 25-year-old has put 13 clean sheets on his tally in the 2019/20 campaign, conceding just 45 goals.

But the Ligue 1 side are already preparing for the goalkeeper’s exit, eyeing up Saint-Etienne No.1 Stephane Ruffier.

Maignan has spent his entire career with Lille, graduating from the academy in 2015 before working his way into the senior team three years ago.

And the French Guinaian has gone on to make 132 appearances, which will see the Blues ‘ready’ a move for the Lille man.

It comes as Sky Sport pundit Jamie Carragher says Chelsea won’t progress unless they sign a new keeper.

“Chelsea won’t go no further unless they change their goalkeeper. Going back to how important goalkeepers are I look at this Chelsea team and there’s a lot I like about it, it does remind me in a lot of ways the position Jurgen Klopp was in a couple of years ago,” he said recently.

“He’s done as much as he can, yes Frank’s still in his early stages but those big signings can completely transform you as a team.
