Kai Havertz to Chelsea: Transfer breakthrough made, £80m deal, Leverkusen target replacement

Chelsea are poised to bolster their attacking ranks this summer with the signing of Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz.

Having already secured the signatures of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner in big-money deals, Havertz looks set to join them at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been locked in lengthy negotiations with Leverkusen about getting a deal over the line and it now seems as though a deal is going to get done.

Six attributes that could make Havertz the ideal signing for Chelsea

Chelsea may have already secured the signing of Ajax sensation Ziyech for next season but you can never have too much quality, right?

If the Blues were to win the race for the midfielder, who would have had ambitions to represent Germany at this summer’s European Championships had they not been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic, he would add an extra wealth of quality to Lampard’s options.

And that is an opinion held by Leverkusen assistant boss Marcel Daum, who has outlined the midfielder’s qualities.

He told talkSPORT: “If you see his movement, he’s very elegant, he’s always calm, he has great passing ability. What a lot of people don’t see, because we watch him every day, is that he’s pretty fast. That’s a big bonus.

“He’s a great player; he’s scoring goals, he’s great in the air and he’s pretty fast.

“It’s up to him how far he can go.”
