Lionel Messi has sensationally asked to leave Barcelona this summer – and the player’s Instagram could offer a clue as to where his future lies.
Following their humiliating 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, Messi has stunned Barca by handing in a transfer request via fax.
The Argentinian, who has scored 634 goals in 731 appearances for the club, is determined to end his contract early and move on this summer.
He still has one year remaining on his current deal, although that deal includes a clause which allows him to end his time at the Nou Camp following the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

But if Messi does head for the Barca exit, where could he go next?
The Ballon d’Or legend’s Instagram account could offer a major clue, due to the fact he is only following four football clubs on the social-media platform.
One of them, of course, is Barca, where he has cemented a legacy as one of the greatest players in football history.

Another is Argentinian outfit Newell’s Old Boys, where he began his youth career in 1994 before leaving for Catalonia seven years later.
Messi has always expressed his desire to return to Newell’s one day, yet it is highly unlikely he would consider a move back to his home country while still seemingly at the peak of his powers.
He also follows Manchester City, who are coached by former Barca manager Pep Guardiola

The only other two clubs he follows on Instagram are a lot more intriguing: Manchester City and Chelsea.
