Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was thoroughly impressed with new-boys Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech after Saturday’s pre-season draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
The pair pulled on Chelsea colours for the first time at the AMEX Stadium as fans, albeit in limited numbers, made their first steps towards returning to stadiums.
Werner, 24, started life as a Stamford Bridge star in the perfect fashion, hitting the back of the net after just four minutes.

And Ziyech shone too – but Lampard says the club are looking closely at his knee after he suffered a small twist.
“I thought Timo was really sharp and bright,” said Lampard, speaking to Chelsea’s website.
“He got his goal really early in the game and he showed some of the qualities that I know very well he has so I am very excited about having him in the squad.
“I thought his work rate and everything about him was a great little start for him and Hakim Ziyech the same, some of his contributions and passing and quality levels were great.
“[Ziyech] has a bit of a knock on his knee, a little bit of a small twist which we will have to assess, hopefully it is not too bad, but in the performances, they were both really good.”
Ziyech and Werner are two of nine summer signings so far for Lampard during what has been a busy summer of recruitment.
That drive has seen Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr join the club, amongst others, but the Chelsea boss is keen for fans to be patient in their wait for success as he urges fans to allow time for the new-boys to settle into London life.
