Chelsea handed Edouard Mendy transfer boost as Rennes target loan replacement

It has already been a busy transfer window for Chelsea so far.

The Blues have bought five new faces to Stamford Bridge and are on the verge of adding a sixth as they close in on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz who has been a primary target for the club this window.

Should a move for Havertz go ahead as expected then he will join new recruits Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, and Thiago Silva at the club ahead of the new season which starts in under two weeks’ time.

Even after bringing Havertz to the club, Frank Lampard will continue to look to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes in just over a month’s time.

A number of goalkeepers have been linked with a summer move to Stamford Bridge including Dean Henderson and Jan Oblak, but both seem to be out of Chelsea’s reach with the former having agreed a new contract at Manchester United.

That means that the Blues have moved onto other targets.
