From Thiago Silva to Emerson Palmieri – Chelsea’s strongest defence ahead of Brighton

Chelsea struggled at the back last season as they leaked too many goals to really challenge for a top spot.

The Blues had the worst record in the Premier League’s top ten with 54 goals against them over the 2019/20 campaign.

It’s something Frank Lampard is keen to put right in the upcoming campaign, and the Blues have added two defenders already.

But where do they rank within the current structure of the first team squad? takes a look right here.

10. Emerson Palmieri

It hasn’t been a great time for the Italy international at Stamford Bridge and his time with the Blues is set to come to an end.

With Chilwell coming in, Emerson is set to be the man who is moved on to make space.

9. Fikayo Tomori

Fikayo Tomori had a decent start with the Blues in his first season as a first team player.

The 22-year-old, however, played just one Premier League game in 2020 and has slipped down the pecking order of centre-backs.

It’s likely, with Silva arriving, that Tomori is the one who will head out on loan, with Everton being interested in taking him.

8. Marcos Alonso

With Chilwell coming in a left-back will have to move on, but it’s not likely to be Alonso who offers something else to the Blues.

The Spaniard may have his faults as a left-back, however he still is a top wing-back and adds an attacking element to the Blues.

However, Chilwell is expected to be the number one left-back and Alonso is in a fight to get a regular spot.

Premier League football will once again be split across three broadcasters: Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime.
