Chelsea’s move for Edouard Mendy has hit a snag, according to reports in France.
The Rennes stopper has been fully expectant to move to west London and replace under-fire No 1 Kepa Arrizabalaga between the sticks at Stamford Bridge.
But Rennes appear to be trying to land a Chelsea star in return, in the form of young defender Fikayo Tomori.
Telefoot report the Ligue 1 side want the young defender as a makeweight as part of Mendy’s imminent exit.
However, it is unclear if Rennes want Tomori on a permanent deal or just on a season-long loan following his solid performances under Frank Lampard last term.
The 22-year-old was in fine form last term but faces a season on the sidelines behind the likes of Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen.
According to French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, the 28-year-old is ready and waiting to fly to London.
Mendy is holding off on travelling until he gets the green light to do so.
Chelsea have already agreed a five-year contract with him ahead of his proposed transfer.
“Not at the moment, not at the moment, no,” he told Sky Sports.
“There’s obviously some weeks to go until he end of the window.
“We’ve got a big squad now as well so we have to manage that and look at how we move forward in terms of getting the right level of competition within the squad.
“But no news on that one at the minute. I’m very happy with Kepa.
