Chelsea ‘s 3-1 win over Brighton saw Frank Lampard ‘s side get off to a good start in the new Premier League campaign, with a Jorginho penalty, a thunderbolt from Reece James and a deflected strike from Kurt Zouma earning them all three points.
Leandro Trossard’s second-half equaliser ended up as nothing more than a consolation in the end, with Chelsea seeing off a spirited display from Brighton.
There were two debutants in the Blues’ line-up, with Timo Werner leading the line and Kai Havertz expected to provide much of the creativity in midfield.
Fellow new signings Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell were absent through injury.

Werner was particularly impressive, with the German international looking lively all night and winning the penalty which allowed Chelsea to take the lead.
Havertz was less impressive but, given he has only been training with his new team for ten days, he will surely only get better.
However, fans on social media were less forgiving, with one posting a clip of the midfielder playing a terrible sideways pass straight out of play with the caption: “What a pass from Havertz”

And rival supporters were quick to jump on it, with one asking: “How much for this dude again?”
“They actually rate the guy ahead of Bruno”, added a Manchester United fan.
While another wrote: “Pogba and Henderson got slaughtered for this”.
“80m for this?” asked a fourth.
Lampard was much more positive in his appraisal of Havertz’s debut, saying: “I liked him. It’s not a game that you’d come away and go, ‘here are 10 vintage…
