Timo Werner scoring and Kai Havertz ‘looking interested’ key for Chelsea at Liverpool

Timo Werner getting off the mark and Kai Havertz upping his work-rate are key in this weekend’s clash as Chelsea face Liverpool.

That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and Daily Star columnist Paul Merson.

The Reds continue their title defence of the Premier League with a visit to London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Both sides started with a win after victories over Leeds United and Brighton.

But they face much sterner opposition on Sunday in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash.

The Blues have been touted as potential title challengers after their extravagant spending this summer.

That has included the signings of Werner and Havertz, and Merson believes they hold the key to victory over Liverpool.

He told the Daily Star: “Chelsea have got to make a statement against Liverpool this weekend and with Timo Werner they just might!

“You would not want to be marking Werner if you were a defender. He is a prime example to any young player.

“He is always on the move, always making runs, and he consistently makes unselfish runs too to free up space for others.

“I can’t see how he’s not going to score loads of goals for Chelsea. He will play every week. He’s got to be a contender for the Golden Boot.

“Werner will give Liverpool a test. I think both teams would take a draw right now because you can’t afford to lose too many games if you want to win the league.”
