Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard clash on touchline during Tottenham vs Chelsea

Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard put their love for each other aside this evening as they exchanged words on the touchline.

Lampard’s Chelsea went 1-0 up through Timo Werner midway through the first-half, with Spurs struggling to get forward.

It is unclear what caused the touchline clash soon after, as Mourinho and Lampard shouted at each other from their technical areas.

Fourth official Andre Marriner was forced to get between the pair, who achieved great success at Chelsea back in the day, telling both men to calm down.

Mourinho gestured that Lampard was mouthing off, before pointing towards the Chelsea dugout and motioning for Lampard to take a seat.

The latter seemed bemused by the incident, which continued for the good part of a minute, hitting back himself.

Lampard has previous for clashing with his opposite number after getting involved in a touchline spat with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp last season.

The pair shared words after the Chelsea boss felt aggrieved when his side conceded a soft free-kick at Anfield during lockdown.

Mourinho didn’t seem in the best of moods before the clash this evening when questioned about his team selection.


The Portuguese was quizzed once again about Dele Alli, who was snubbed from the matchday 18 this evening, despite Mourinho making wholesale changes.

But the Tottenham boss wasn’t in the mood to explain the player’s absence.

“No Dele Alli, no Sonny, no Lo Celso,” he responded when asked about Alli’s omission.
