Chelsea boss Frank Lampard gives six-word response to Antonio Rudiger transfer question

Frank Lampard has refused to reveal if Antonio Rudiger still has a future at Chelsea.

The recent arrival of Thiago Silva has seen the Germany international fall further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, with Lampard holding the Brazilian, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori in higher regard.

Frustrated by his lack of first-team football this season, Rudiger is understood to be currently weighing up his options.

Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham are reportedly considering offering the centre-back a lifeline, with a season-long loan deal Spurs’ preference.

Rudiger was omitted from the matchday squad for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup defeat to the north Londoners on Tuesday night, prompting suggestions Lampard has deemed the former Roma man to be surplus to requirements.

He wouldn’t, however, elaborate on the matter when it was put to him after his team’ were knocked out of the cup on penalties.

When asked if he thinks Rudiger’s future lays elsewhere, Lampard said: “No, it’s not at that point.”

Lampard’s comments on Rudiger echo those he made about the 27-year-old earlier this week.
