Chelsea are set to table a significant offer for Declan Rice before Monday’s transfer deadline because Frank Lampard is “in love” with the West Ham star.
That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims the Blues will not make a move for any alternatives if their pursuit proves unsuccessful.
Lampard has been handed almost £250million worth of new recuits at Stamford Bridge this summer, bolstering his squad with the likes of Kai Havertz (£72million), Timo Werner (£54million) and Ben Chilwell (£50million).
Despite that hefty summer outlay, though, it is believed Chelsea are still targeting a move for Rice late on in the window.

West Ham are determined to keep their star man, who they value at an eye-watering £73million, and assistant manager Alan Irvine insisted on Sunday that he will “absolutely” remain at the London Stadium this season.
Yet according to Romano, Chelsea will test the Hammers’ resolve by launching an “important bid” before the transfer window closes on Monday.

“Chelsea, I’d keep an eye on the situation with Declan Rice of West Ham,” he said.
