Chelsea reluctant to give Antonio Rudiger preferred loan move this summer

Antonio Rudiger is determined to join Tottenham before Monday’s transfer deadline – but Chelsea are reluctant to sell him to their London rivals.

The Germany defender has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season, failing to make it into Frank Lampard ’s last five matchday squads.

Spurs are reportedly interested in signing him on loan before the transfer window closes, with Jose Mourinho keen to add another centre-back to his ranks.

Yet according to The Athletic, Chelsea are reluctant to let Rudiger join Spurs having seen their relationship with the north London outfit sour in recent years.

If the 27-year-old does leave Stamford Bridge, Chelsea want him to first protect his market value by putting pen to paper on a contract extension – with just two years remaining on his current deal.

Rudiger has fallen behind the likes of Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen in the Chelsea pecking order this season.
