Every Premier League club’s transfer window rated as Man Utd struggle and Chelsea excel

The summer transfer window finally drew to a close on Monday night after what seems like an eternity.

Arsenal stole the Premier League headlines on deadline day by securing a £45million deal for Thomas Partey right at the death, while Manchester United snapped up Edinson Cavani on a free transfer.

There was no last-minute action for the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, nonetheless, who got their business done earlier in the window.

So which top-flight clubs pulled off the best transfers over the summer? Daily Star Sport have given each side a grade based on the quality of their business.

Aston Villa – A

Aston Villa have had a brilliant transfer window, strengthening in all the right areas with shrewd signings.

Emiliano Martinez already looks a top shot stopper, Ross Barkley impressed in his debut in the demolition of Liverpool, and Ollie Watkins looks electric up top. Last year they battled relegation but this is a squad that is capable of much more.

Arsenal – B+

This is Mikel Arteta’s first summer transfer window and he has taken every chance to stamp his footballing philosophy all over the team and without spending a fortune.

Willian in for free is an excellent signing, Thomas Partey will boost the midfield, Gabriel looks a top player, and they’ve also managed to ship substitute ‘keeper Martinez for £20 million. Great business. Misses out on an A for making Gunnersaurus redundant.
