Frank Lampard has confirmed Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy will not feature for Chelsea in their Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday.
Silva and Mendy both joined Lampard’s squad in the summer window, with the former completing a free switch to Stamford Bridge after departing Paris St-Germain upon the expiry of his contract.
As for Senegal goalkeeper Mendy, he completed a £22million move from Rennes to provide competition in between the sticks for struggling star Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The two new Blues signings were on form in their 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace before the international break, yet they will both be unavailable when Southampton visit west London on Saturday.

Mendy was forced to withdraw from Senegal’s camp earlier than planned last week with a thigh injury, while Silva will miss out after travelling to South America for Brazil duty.
“Mendy won’t be fit for this game but we hope he won’t be out for too long,” Lampard said at his pre-match press conference.
“Thiago Silva after his trip [with the Brazil national team], is not in the squad. He’s not unfit but he’s not ready to play in the weekend’s game due to the travelling he’s done.”

Chelsea have been without new £36million recruit Hakim Ziyech so far this season after the winger sustained a knee injury in their friendly match against Brighton in August.
Christian Pulisic has also been absent for the majority of the campaign with a hamstring problem, although he came off the bench in the recent win over Palace.
