Petr Cech has been added to Chelsea’s Premier League squad list as ’emergency goalkeeper cover’ for the 2020/21 campaign.
The shock announcement from the Blues comes amid the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Blues not wanting to be left short in the goalkeeper department.
The 38-year-old is Chelsea’s technical and performance adviser, but has been training at Cobham this year, keeping himself fit and also helping out with the goalkeeper coaching.
And Cech could return to action if the Blues are left in a desperate situation, with Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero the main goalkeepers.

A Chelsea spokesman said: “Petr Cech has been included in the squad as emergency goalkeeper cover.
“This is a precautionary step due to the unprecedented conditions currently caused by the Covid-19 crisis. He takes up a position as a non-contract player.”
Cech retired from playing in 2019 with Arsenal before taking up his new role last summer, but has been in and around the training ground this season with his gloves back on.
And that is something Lampard has been keen to see over the course of the season so far.
“With Petr, he has so much give on that side of things,” Lampard said. “Of course his day job here now is technical advisor and he is a great help on that front, and that has been brilliant for me to have that since being back at the club.
“Having Petr train with the goalkeepers and bring his experience is a great thing, because he has great quality.
“I think he retired pretty young so he is training and keeping fit, which is healthy for him and for the goalkeepers in the squad. And that is as far as it goes.
