Frank Lampard’s team selections are always the subject of some controversy – in fact, every manager’s team selection is the subject of some controversy these days.
There’s one selection the Chelsea manager has made two games in a row though which is winding up a select group of supporters.
Both on Saturday against Southampton and last night against Sevilla, Lampard picked Mason Mount on the left wing, with Christian Pulisic playing off the right.
This gets Mount into the team when there otherwise wouldn’t be room for him, but means Pulisic playing on his less effective side.
This irritates a lot of fans who want to see the winger used in his most effective role, given how dangerous he can be. On social media, there was a wave of frustration at one point that Lampard was insisting on keeping things as they were.
He went on to put Pulisic on the left in the second half, to much greater effect.
Mount is not a winger, Pulisic is better on the left, midfield pivot doesn’t work, and lumping the ball forward without an aerial outlet is pointless.
Still, least we haven’t conceded yet and did start to threaten at the end there!

Honestly as much as I love Mount, Frank is killing him keep him playing left wing, it’s also limiting Pulisic playing him on the right, bring Callum/Ziyech on, take Mount off & put Puli left wing

5 subs available, I’d make minimum 1 change at HT. I’d take Mount out, who’s being asked to play a position he isn’t & has a yellow, and put Ziyech in & move Pulisic to his natural LW.
And maybe Jorginho out for Kova because the former has made me nervous w/ some challenges.

Pulisic briefly plays on the left and we actually seem to click, put pressure on Sevilla and pose a threat. A few minutes later Mount reverts back to the left and we look toothless again.
Who the hell is…
