New United signing sends message to Silva

Manchester United’s summer signing Edinson Cavani says he is looking forward to coming up against former Paris Saint-Germain teammate and current Chelsea defender Thiago Silva.

Frank Lampard’s side welcome United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday and the game will give Cavani and Silva an opportunity to reacquaint.

The two spent seven seasons together at Paris Saint-Germain, where they won countless trophies, but both moved on from the French capital once their contracts concluded this summer.

And Cavani, who could make his Manchester United debut against the Blues, told EN24 News: “It will be great to be able to find him on the pitch.

“Thiago is very professional, because he works so hard in training and in the pre-match warm-ups. Well, it won’t be easy!

“It will be complicated because he is a very good central defender and an excellent footballer. But it will still be a great experience.”

Jorginho’s growing importance to Lampard

Prior to the summer transfer window opening, many expected Jorginho to leave Chelsea, potentially heading back to Serie A with Juventus supposedly interested.

And yet, so far this season, the oft-maligned Italy international has played a crucial role in Lampard’s set-up, so much so that he is now indispensable, both on and off the pitch.
