Solskjaer rages at Rashford miss vs Chelsea and rants to Cavani on Man Utd bench

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was visibly frustrated as Marcus Rashford missed a golden opportunity to put the Red Devils ahead against Chelsea.

In a relatively dull first half, Rashford was played through and was left one-on-one with Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

But the new Chelsea signing got the better of the England star with Mendy saving with his right leg.

There were thoughts that Rashford could have taken his 35th minute opportunity closer to goal, shooting from outside the penalty area.

And, following the save, United boss Solskjaer was seen gesticulating in the dugout, frustrated at the missed opportunity.

Solskjaer swung his arm and stormed back towards dugout and appeared to speak with new striker Edinson Cavani.

The boss appeared to be suggesting Rashford could have gone closer towards goal with Cavani nodding back to his new manager.

Mendy had done well to close down the angle, though United hero Gary Neville believes Rashford would have been annoyed with himself.

He said on Sky Sports commentary: “I think he will be really disappointed, Marcus Rashford. There was a big gap.”

Cavani could make his United debut against the Blues having been signed on transfer deadline day.

“Of course where he’s been away from football for so long, he needed a pre-season,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s naturally fit and he’s been looking after himself. He had two weeks in quarantine but we did provide him with all the facilities – the gym and a treadmill – and he posted (online) a few running sessions that he did.
