Chelsea fans split as Frank Lampard holds ‘constructive talks’ to hand defender lifeline

Chelsea fans have been reacting to reports Antonio Rudiger could come back into the fold.

The Germany international hasn’t featured for the Blues yet this season having fallen out of favour following the arrival of Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma featuring alongside the Brazilian for the most part.

But according to the Telegraph, Rudiger has held ‘constructive talks’ with Blues boss Frank Lampard over resurrecting his Chelsea career, hopinh of getting a chance to prove himself.

The centre-back was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge on loan at the end of the transfer window but he snubbed any interest from London duo Tottenham and West Ham.

Since then, his omissions from the Chelsea team have only continued, Rudiger yet to be named in a single matchday squad since the opening day win over Brighton.

But things could improve for the German from here if the reports are to be believed with Lampard looking for ways to solve his defensive puzzle.

Chelsea have conceded nine goals in their first six games, and while last weekend’s goalless draw with Manchester United brought encouragement on that front, there is still work to be done.

But could Rudiger be the answer?

Fans have had their say on Twitter on the back of the report. Take a look at what they have had to say below.

Rudiger has been at Chelsea since his £31.5million move from Italian giants AS Roma in 2017, going on to make 80 league appearances to date.

The 27-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to run until 2022, but unless he does get the chance to prove himself to Lampard, and indeed take that opportunity if it comes, his stay could well be cut short prior to that date.
