Antonio Rudiger hopeful of Chelsea return after ‘constructive’ talks with Frank Lampard

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has reportedly held ‘constructive’ talks with manager Frank Lampard about his place at the club and believes he will get the chance to fight for his future.

Rudiger had been a regular in the Chelsea team since joining in 2017 but the arrival of Thiago Silva in the summer has seen the German lose his place.

That led to interest from West Ham and Tottenham in the transfer window but Rudiger turned down the opportunity to move away on loan.

His decision to stay appeared to have backfired as Lampard left him out of all but one matchday squad until last week when he was named on the bench for the clash with Sevilla in the Champions League.

He was on the bench again on Saturday for the goalless draw with Manchester United but according to the Telegraph, the 27-year-old reckons he will soon get a chance to prove his value amid a hectic fixture schedule after speaking with Lampard.

The report says Rudiger will assess his situation in the new year as he is keen to retain his place in Germany’s starting XI and play at the European Championships.

Meanwhile, Lampard says he is pleased with how his Chelsea players have claimed back-to-back clean sheets after struggling defensively at times this season.
