“I was the one who initiated it”

Things looked promising for Ruben Loftus-Cheek this season when he was handed a start in the first league game of the season, but before long he was out of favour, and he then made a deadline day move to Fulham.

The Sun have an interesting interview with the midfielder where he reveals he wasn’t sent against his will – in fact he was the one behind the move.

“We had an honest conversation,” he said of his chat with Lampard about a potential loan move.

“I was the one who initiated it. I felt like it was paramount that I played a lot of football this season.”

He went on to explain that after such a long time injured, and with the new signings in place, he wasn’t sure he would be able to be a regular starter this season – probably a reasonable assumption.

But instead of kicking his heels on the bench he decided to be proactive and seek a temporary move elsewhere.

That’s a very wise and mature move, and if he can play half as well as he did at Crystal Palace three years ago, it won’t be long before he’s back in the Chelsea team again too.
