Chelsea wasted a golden opportunity to get their noses in front inside just 15 minutes of their Champions League group stage clash against FC Krasnodar on Tuesday evening.
With just 13 minutes on the clock at the Krasnodar Stadium, the Blues were handed a penalty when Timo Werner, who was joined in attack by fellow summer signing Hakim Ziyech for the first time from the start of a game, was tripped by defender Kaio Fernando da Silva Pantaleao.
Referee Ali Palabiyak didn’t hesitate when pointing to the spot, allowing Frank Lampard’s side a golden opportunity to get their noses in front.
As expected, Italian midfielder Jorginho shouldered the responsibility of trying to score the Blues’ first Champions League goal of the season. However, after delivering his trademark hop in the run up to the ball, his effort struck the post, despite the goalkeeper diving to the opposite side of the goal.

The Italian’s miss means that he has now missed two of his last four penalties for the Blues, with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson denying him during a clash at Stamford Bridge back in September.
Despite his tally of successful spot kicks outweighing the negatives, some Chelsea supporters believe it is time for a change as far the responsibility of taking penalties is concerned, with plenty calling on Lampard to make the alteration.
And the general consensus suggests that Chelsea’s fans want to see Werner handed the responsibility of aiming to tuck the ball away from 12 yards.
With that in mind, here is a close look at how some Chelsea fans have responded to Jorginho’s missed spot-kick in Russia…
