Chelsea player ratings: Hakim Ziyech sublime as Mason Mount and Reece James impress at Burnley

Edouard Mendy

Did enough to put Ashley Barnes off early on as he came rushing out his goal but was very quiet with Burnley failing to lay a glove on Chelsea. Another clean sheet for Chelsea’s new signing. 7

Reece James

Looked to get forward all the time and put in some brilliant balls from the right, including a sublime one for Timo Werner just prior to the half-time whistle. Played his part in the team’s third goal with a powerful run forward after capitalising on a sloppy pass. Really good shift from the England international. 9

Thiago Silva

Restored to the starting XI after missing out in midweek and was given a big task trying to deal with the power of Barnes and Chris Wood, Excellent at the back again and Chelsea look so much stronger with him there. 8

Kurt Zouma

Caught out by an early long ball that gave Barnes a chance on goal but coped well after that. Scored the crucial second goal with a powerful header that gave Nick Pope no chance. 8

Ben Chilwell

Seemed to be operating more like a wing-back given how far forward he was at times. Wanted a penalty in the first half after going down under Josh Brownhill’s challenge but the referee was having none of it. Assisted Olivier Giroud late on but the Frenchman’s strike was ruled out for offside. 8

N’Golo Kante

Back in the team and gave Mason Mount and Kai Havertz the platform to attack. Put his foot in as always to win the ball and frustrate the hosts to get his team moving forward. 8

Mason Mount

Named in a midfield three and got on the ball often and looked to push on at every opportunity. Showed last season how good he is in this formation and did exactly the same in Lancashire with a brilliant range of passing. Got an assist in the second half as Zouma headed home his corner. Very strong performance from Mount. 9
