Chelsea player ratings: Reece James shines again as Timo Werner fires brace in win over Rennes

Edouard Mendy

Didn’t have a shot on target to deal with in the first half. However, some of his distribution was excellent with some outstanding passes out wide.

Had little to do in the second half as well, but was vocal and made his presence felt at the back. Called into action late on and made an excellent save to keep his clean sheet. 7

Reece James

A couple of really nice crosses once again that came to nothing. Physically good in the tackle as well and won his battle defensively in the first half.

Excellent impact early in the second half with the cross to Abraham for the third goal. He was excellent again in the second 45 minutes. 9

Thiago Silva

So calm and collected in the first half, seeing out any danger that was in front of him. No shot for Rennes in the first half on target and he controlled the defence.

Again in the second half there was little for him to do as Rennes struggled with ten men. But he has made an excellent impact in this side. 8

Kurt Zouma

Another really strong first half as well. Big in the tackle and was good on the ball for much of the game. Looks confident next to Thiago Silva.

Was in the right place at the right times and looked settled against a physical striker in Guirassy. 7

Ben Chilwell

Excellent play in the build-up to the goal, getting forward and finding Werner. A tough time defensively at times, with Rennes young winger Gboho getting at him.

Had a bit more space to work with in the second half, but couldn’t use it too much. A solid night, however. 7

Jorginho

Rennes tried to nullify him and despite the scoreline the midfield struggled to keep the ball well. It was all a little rushed at times.

Some of his forward passes really didn’t come off and he was a bit sloppy in possession. Controlled the tempo better later on, though. 6
