Former Manchester United and England centre-back Rio Ferdinand believes Hakim Ziyech will prove to be Frank Lampard’s best signing after a busy summer of transfer activity at Stamford Bridge.
In total, Chelsea made seven big-name signings during the summer, spending more than £200million on landing some of European football’s most exciting stars.
Whilst the quests to sign the likes of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City and Germany international Kai Havertz required patience, Chelsea wasted little time in securing a deal to land Ziyech from Ajax.
The Blues, who return to Champions League action on Wednesday evening to lock horns with French outfit Rennes at Stamford Bridge, agreed a deal with Ajax to sign Ziyech way back in February, but he did not formally complete the move until July 1.

After getting the chance to train with his new team-mates, although he couldn’t play for the club, in the latter stages of last season, the Moroccan international suffered the worst possible blow on his first outing for the Blues, suffering an injury in the 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in a pre-season friendly in late-August.
But as damaging as that setback was, Ziyech has come back fighting, scoring twice and claiming one assist in his first five matches for the club.
With Ziyech having set the tone for the quality he will bring to the table, Ferdinand, who lavished the midfielder with praise prior to his move to Stamford Bridge, has insisted that Ziyech will make the “difference” for Frank Lampard’s side this season.
“I’m sure at home he’s [Lampard] had a bit of anxiety about wanting to make sure their front players, the ones he’s brought in, play well. That’s pressure,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
