When the international break rolls around, that means just two things: loads of boring games you don’t care about, plus a new wonderkid ranking from CIES.
The self-proclaimed “football observatory” publish their regular list of the most valuable players under 20 every time this fortnight rolls around, and we’re used to there being a host of Chelsea players on there – but this time there’s just one Blue in the whole thing. Calllum Hudson-Odoi.
Of course we have a few players just above that bracket who would have been on the list not long ago – Reece James, Christian Pulisic et al. – but this is a still a disappointing return.
As always with these things we end up asking the same question – where on earth is Billy Gilmour? Lewis Bate? What more do these kids have to do to prove they’re up there with… “Emile Smith Rowe” and Nathan Ferguson?
Next edition, Callum won’t be eligible. Surely there will be at least one new Blue face in there.
