What Ben Chilwell thinks of back injury and likely cause will annoy Chelsea fans

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell suffered a back spasm during England vs Belgium on Sunday evening.

Gareth Southgate was forced to withdraw the former Leicester City left-back after drafting him into his starting XI following a fine start to the season at his new club.

Supporters would have been worried to see the 23-year-old clutching his back when leaving the playing surface, but it was something that was brought on before the match.

Although he could now miss the final international fixture, he could still return against Newcastle.

According to the Telegraph, Chilwell himself believes it was brought on by traveling – and it is added that he will likely miss the clash against Iceland on Wednesday.

The update come after Southgate said: “He had some sort of issue with his back that he was complaining about and he didn’t feel he could carry on. Outside of that I can’t give you any detail at the moment.”

Before adding of pressure place on players by their clubs: “We will find out a lot now because for sure there will be pressure from some clubs on their own players.

“That is what we live with constantly but we have players who want to play for England and we have pride in the way we play and we want to finish well.”
