Chelsea’s Mason Mount has explained how his midfield partnership with Declan Rice works.
The Blues star started alongside the West Ham United ace in the middle of the park as England comfortably beat Iceland 4-0 in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday evening.
Furthermore, the pair – who are best friends – both got on the scoresheet in the first-half at Wembley which has prompted some Chelsea fans to name Rice as Mount’s perfect midfield partner for country and, hopefully, for club in the future.
As revealed by football.london , one of Marina Granovskaia’s next two Chelsea transfer priorities to complete Frank Lampard’s squad is to sign a defensive midfielder and the top target is Rice.

If Chelsea are finally able to get a deal over the line for Rice at some point in 2021, head coach Lampard has already been told how to replicate the midfield partnership with Mount in west London.
“Being in there with him, letting him do the defensive side, winning the ball back,” Mount told Sky Sports.
“I kind of had the freedom to go a bit forward, link up with Jack [Grealish] Phil [Foden] and H [Harry Kane] up front and that’s the freedom I had.
“So just trying to link everything up, obviously score goals, get assists.
“The attack we had tonight was deadly in scoring goals. It was a good performance and hopefully we can get better and better.”
Mount’s admission about his midfield partnership with Rice could give Lampard something to think about if he is able to lure the latter to west London either in January or next summer.
The Blues boss appears to have settled on a 4-3-3 formation with Mount and Kai Havertz the two advanced midfielders.
N’Golo Kante is currently tasked with the defensive role that would be best suited for Rice if he were to join his best friend at Chelsea.
