Hello and welcome to live coverage of Frank Lampard’s post-match press conference after Chelsea beat Newcastle United 2-0 at St James’ Park to go top of the Premier League.
An own goal from Federico Fernandez and a goal from Tammy Abraham was the difference between the two sides but the Blues had more than enough chances to score far more.
Fernandez bundled the ball into his own net after just 10 minutes, but that was not Chelsea’s only chance of the firs half with Timo Werner in particular going close to extending the lead either side of half-time.
Karl Darlow was able to deny Werner one-on-one in the first half before the German wasted a golden opportunity in the second half by opting to pass rather than shoot when bearing down on goal in the second half.
Werner made up for his earlier lapses though with a marauding run from inside the Chelsea half before sliding Abraham in to seal the three points with just under half an hour remaining.
Lampard’s side were never really troubled at the other end with Edouard Mendy having very little to do all game as Newcastle struggled to get their few shots on target.
Stay tuned below for all the latest from the head coach on a winning afternoon for those in blue.
